Canvaswork or Crewel
with Sue Hawkins
13th - 15th 2018 Highfield
Sue is the author of several needlework
books and sells her own 'Needleworks' kits drawing inspiration from
17thC antique English embroidery. If you choose canvaswork, you can
forget acres of boring tent stitch, Sue’s canvaswork is something
else! Lots of different stitches counted onto canvas. Stitches &
colours combine to make exquisite needle workers' accessories. For
those who choose crewel, it is one of the oldest of needle arts, but
actually much easier than you might think. Explore stitching without
charts or holes in the fabric to count. You will learn simple
techniques that will enable you to paint with your needle. Learn
basic stitches, and soft shading and then the wide variety of crewel
stitches will open to you. Sue’s unique ‘Elizabethan’ embroidery
frames will be available for you to try over the weekend. Materials
for one project will be included.
